Tragic event hits The Boston Marathon

On April 15th, 2013 a marathon was being held in Boston. Thousands of people were attending rooting for their family, friends, and loved ones. The air was filled with happiness as the contestants were running through the finish line after running an exhausting 26.2 miles. As the marathon was coming to an end, two bombs went off within minutes of each other. Sadly, 3 people died including an eight year old boy and hundreds were wounded. People’s limbs were detached from their bodies and some even suffer from internal damage. Luckily, cops quickly figured out who the suspects were. Nineteen year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother, twenty six year old Tamerlan Tsarnaev. Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with the police on the night of April 18th; Dzhokhar was lucky enough to escape the police but was thankfully caught the next day.

What happened in Boston on April 15th was a very tragic event. A little girl now has only one leg and no longer has a big brother to look up to. Hundreds of families are affected by this incident but are still looking on the bright side of things which is exactly what you need to do in a situation like this. What Tamerlan and Dzhokhar did wasn’t right; they targeted hundreds of innocent people and blamed it on their religion. They made pressure cookers filled with nails, put them in their backpacks and dropped them in front of people that they didn’t even know. When the bombs exploded people ran around in kayos looking for their families and making sure they were okay and unharmed but unfortunately a lot of them had major injuries. Hopefully nothing this awful happens again.

Melissa Potvins opinion on cheerleading

I decided to interview Melissa Potvin on her opinions on cheerleading. This interview took place on April second at her house. I wanted to interview her because she is a fellow cheerleader who did pop Warner since she was little and made varsity her freshman year. I started the interview by asking her why she decided to start cheerleading. Her response to my question was “My dad used to coach the football team and I used to watch the older girls cheer and they inspired me so I decided to give it a try and I loved it”. My next question that I asked Melissa was what her favorite part about it was. Her response was “The games because they are exciting and I love cheering with my team”. The third question that I asked was why she continued to participate in cheerleading. She said “I love it; it’s like a sixth sense to me”. My next question I asked was what makes a good cheerleader. Her remark was “Good tumbling, good facial expressions, perkiness and a loud voice”. To end the interview I asked how someone can improve their skills if they’re not that good. She responded by saying “Hard work, dedication and a lot of tumbling classes”. That concluded my interview with Melissa Potvin

Later School Openings

In my opinion, school should start no earlier than 8 a.m. Studies show that childrens brains can't function before that time anyways. So whats the point in starting school as long as we do? Teachers expect us to pay attention and answer difficult questions when were still half asleep. I dont think it's fair to us students that have to deal with teachers getting mad at us for not knowing an answer its not our fault. Most students wake up about an hour before their school starts so for Norton High School that's about 6:40ish which is way to early to be awake. Teenagers should get approximately eight hours of sleep a night so that would mean students would have to go to bed around 10:30. It's a reasonable time to go to sleep but the only problem is that we're assigned so much homework that its hard to go to bed before 11. Thats what I think on later school openings.
